Sydney New Year's Eve -is an annual event held every New Year's over Sydney Harbour, Centre stage is the Sydney Harbour Bridge Australia. there are two pyrotechnic displays, "9pm being the Family Fireworks" and of course "Midnight Fireworks" being the main show, both of which are televised nationally with the midnight show being televised around the world.
Set to a soundtrack, the fireworks explode off the arches and roadway of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and also some city buildings. The closing sequence of the show features the bridge before firing from all angles to explode into a "all-white" and colourful showery finale as the famous waterfall is unleashed.
The event was first televised on 31 December 1996. The 9pm Family Fireworks was originally the main show and went for about twenty minutes. The Midnight Fireworks lasted about three minutes and only featured Sydney Tower. From NYE 1999, the tradition began on having the main show at midnight.
The Foti family tradition of fireworks began in Sicily in 1793, and every year on New Year's Eve, they set Sydney harbour alight with spectacular displays. But in order to keep their business going, the Fotis have had to constantly adapt and seek new challenges. and have been responsible for Sydney New Year Eve for 15 consecutive years
The fireworks are designed by Foti International Fireworks, led by Fireworks Director Fortunato Foti, and require a pyrotechnic crew of 45 people.
The 2017 show will featured with:
25,000 fireworks, shot from 175 firing points - 3000 more than previous years, 12,000 shells and 25,000 shooting comets,
100,000 individual pyrotechnic effects which made up 7 Tonnes of fireworks
Fourteen shipping containers of equipment, weighing 120 tonnes, are used for both the 9PM and Midnight Fireworks displays.
Twelve computers will digitally launch the fireworks from Sydney Harbour, barges Sydney Bridge and Opera House. The computers will be used to fire the show and will ensure the fireworks are synced to the music.
More than 60 kms of wire and cables link the computers, and there are 130 firing points on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The 9PM Family Fireworks will go off from four fireworks barges, the main show the Midnight Fireworks will launch from seven barges, even jet-skis, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.
Each year the top-secret Sydney Harbour Bridge Effect is a highly anticipated part of the night and is only revealed at the end of the Midnight Fireworks display.
This year, the Bridge Effect will be made from more than 13 kilometres of LED rope light, and measure 12 storeys high.
The theme was inspired behind the famous Pop Stars of Prince and David Bowie, Marriage Equality saw its colours shine and Hugh Jackman designed a 20 second piece.
