This was somewhat a quick escape up to the Gold Coast Hinterland 2 days before Christmas as i was trying to sort out a car for the day, Hmm just like Airfare Tickets affiliated rental companies take advantage of you in busy periods. I was provided the option of a car from "Budget" for $150 for the day, as i was walking to the pick up area i passed a smaller independent rental company and said yep aim going to ask the question and to my delight they said Yes !!! and were happy to do a deal for less than $80 - Righto there is a some justice here - After a short period i was finally off.
I encourage anyone that might be visiting the Gold Coast / South East Queensland Region to take the time, if you have it - to drive up to the Hinterland, whether you only have the time to just visit Mt Tamborine, Springbrook or Lamington National parks. Its a fantastic opportunity to Escape the Hustle "n" Bustle of the Gold Coast MAD strip - This way you get to visit some great Mountain locations and if you have time take a hike or two or even visit a waterfall, (Purling Brook Falls) a lookout named "Best of All lookout" and a bridge named the "Natural Bridge" amazing after its been raining.
The Springbrook National Park is a protected national park that is located in the Gold Coast hinterland of Queensland, Australia. The 6,197-hectare park is situated on the McPherson Range, near Springbrook, approximately 100 kilometres south of Brisbane. The park is part of the Shield Volcano Group of the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Gondwana Rainforests of Australia.
In December 1994, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee officially extended the area now known as the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area over the Scenic Rim (including Main Range, Mount Barney, Lamington and Springbrook National Parks and Goomburra Forest Reserve) and the rainforests of northern New South Wales. 2007 saw the areas of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia were added to the Australian National Heritage List. The park is part of the Scenic Rim Important Bird Area, because of its importance in the conservation of several species of threatened birds.
Springbrook's spectacular landscape is punctuated with awesome waterfalls, such as Twin Falls and Purling Brook Falls.
Dominating the Gold Coast's western skyline, Springbrook's forests and mountain streams offer views of impressive landscapes, and hikes among subtropical and temperate rainforest, open eucalypt forest and montane heath.
Spectacular waterfalls, cascades and tumbling creeks are dominant features in this Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area.
Springbrook National Park covers four main sections—Springbrook plateau, Mount Cougal to the south east and Natural Bridge and Numinbah to the west. The plateau has many lookouts with fabulous views while Mount Cougal offers an insight into the area's logging history. Visit Natural Bridge by day to see a unique waterfall or after dark to discover the park's amazing glow-worms. Take a lunch and picnic on the shaded banks of the Nerang River at Forest Park picnic area.
Hiking in these Rain forests have always been impressive for me as the vegetation is far different to what iam used to back in NSW which is the typical eucalypt bush
